Omaha Recycling Guide
All-Plastic Mailing Envelopes
Not Accepted, Alternative Options Available
DO NOT place this item in a City of Omaha curbside recycling cart or drop-off site container.
Place plastic mailing envelopes in the garbage if they cannot be reused, or use an alternative option.
Important Note: Not all mailers are the same! Envelopes made of mixed materials, such as a paper outside with plastic bubble wrap lining, should be placed in the garbage. Browse related items for more info.
Where Else Could It Go?
This item can be placed in an orange Hefty® ReNew® bag. FirstStar Recycling offers this special program to collect hard-to-recycle plastics in our community. To participate, you can purchase orange Hefty® ReNew® bags, which will be collected through your existing curbside and drop-off site services. When filled with accepted materials and tied shut, the bright orange Hefty® ReNew® bag is the ONLY bag that can be placed in a curbside recycling cart or drop-off site container. All-plastic envelopes can also be taken to a store drop-off container for free. Look for plastic bag and film recycling receptacles at participating retail and grocery stores. Note: Individual retail stores may have additional information about materials collected at their site.
Ways to Reduce or Reuse
Reduce waste by purchasing mailing supplies made from sustainable materials. Instead of plastic, opt for cardboard or plain paper envelopes, or 100% paper-padded envelopes that can be recycled just like a paper bag or box.
Reuse bubble mailers to ship your own items - just cover the old label and re-seal the opened end. Repurpose a padded mailer as a protective wrapping to ship or store fragile items.
