Contact the retailer or supplier you purchased the canister from to find out if they have a take-back or exchange program.
If the canister is completely EMPTY and depressurized, some local scrap or metal recycling facilities will accept metal items. Look up a scrap metal recycling facility near you to find out what items they accept. Some scrap recyclers will pay for materials by weight, and in other instances, fees may apply depending on material type.
