Only an EMPTY plastic outer case (with cassette tape and paper insert removed) can be placed in an orange Hefty® ReNew® bag. FirstStar Recycling offers this special program to collect hard-to-recycle plastics in our community. To participate, you can purchase orange Hefty® ReNew® bags, which will be collected through your existing curbside and drop-off site services. When filled with accepted materials and tied shut, the bright orange Hefty® ReNew® bag is the ONLY bag that can be placed in a curbside recycling cart or drop-off site container. Did You Know
The tape inside of a video or audio cassette is made with a metallic material covered by a plastic shell. Additionally, there are sometimes small metal parts that hold the plastic cassette cover together. Because these materials are very difficult to separate, tapes are not easily recycled through traditional methods. Audio tapes and VHS tapes should be placed in the garbage when they cannot be reused.
