Omaha Recycling Guide
DVDs
Not Accepted
DO NOT place this item in a City of Omaha curbside recycling cart or drop-off site container.
DVD discs and plastic jewel cases should be placed in the garbage if they cannot be reused.
Tip: While DVD discs and hard-plastic jewel cases are NOT accepted, an EMPTY plastic booklet-style case is ok to place in the recycling. Booklet-style cases are typically made with white or black plastic and have an outer plastic sleeve. Remove the disc and paper insert from the case before placing it in the recycling.
Where Else Could It Go?
Alternative Options for Jewel Cases: Only an EMPTY plastic jewel case (with the disc and paper insert removed) can be placed in an orange Hefty® ReNew® bag. DO NOT place DVDs (discs) in the bag.
FirstStar Recycling offers this special program to collect hard-to-recycle plastics in our community. To participate, you can purchase orange Hefty® ReNew® bags, which will be collected through your existing curbside and drop-off site services. When filled with accepted materials and tied shut, the bright orange Hefty® ReNew® bag is the ONLY bag that can be placed in a curbside recycling cart or drop-off site container. Did You Know
CD and DVD discs are made with a metallic material inside a plastic shell. These materials are very difficult to separate and not easily recycled through traditional methods. Discs from CD and DVD collections should be placed in the garbage when they cannot be reused.
