Omaha Recycling Guide
Glass Jars & Bottles
Take to a Glass Drop-off Site
DO NOT place glass items in curbside recycling carts.
Take glass items like bottles and food jars to PURPLE containers at City of Omaha recycling drop-off sites. Find locations at this link:
- Rinse to remove all food residue
- Lids, caps, and labels can stay on
- Corks stuck inside wine bottles are ok
- All colors of glass are ok as long as you can see through it
- Keep items loose and DO NOT bag
Important Notes: Glass must be kept separate from other recyclables, and is NOT accepted in green-lid curbside carts or mixed recycling containers at drop-off sites. Put glass in PURPLE drop-off containers only. DO NOT put boxes or bags into the Purple Container. Porcelain, ceramic, Pyrex, and cookware glass items are NOT accepted.
Ways to Reduce or Reuse
Clean jars with lids can be repurposed as food storage or to-go containers. Reuse bottles as vases or for craft projects.
Did You Know
When mixed with other recyclables, broken glass can contaminate those materials, causing them to be discarded or “downcycled” into lower-quality recycled products. Broken glass can also be harmful to workers and equipment. Safely and effectively recycle your glass by using the PURPLE containers at the City of Omaha's glass recycling sites.
