Omaha Recycling Guide
Pet Food Bags
Not Accepted, Alternative Options Available
DO NOT place this item in a City of Omaha curbside recycling cart or drop-off site container.
Place pet food bags of any size in the garbage if you cannot use an alternative option.
Tip: First confirm what material your pet food bag is made out of. Bags made only with plastic have an alternative option available. To prevent contamination, bags made with mixed materials like a paper outside with plastic lining should be placed in the garbage.
Where Else Could It Go?
EMPTY and CLEAN pet food bags made only from plastic can be placed in an orange Hefty® ReNew® bag. FirstStar Recycling offers a special program to collect hard-to-recycle plastics in our community. To participate, you can purchase orange Hefty® ReNew® bags, which will be collected through your existing curbside and drop-off site services. When filled with accepted materials and tied shut, the bright orange Hefty® ReNew® bag is the ONLY bag that can be placed in a curbside recycling cart or drop-off site container. Did You Know
Bags made from a combination of paper and plastic layers are NOT accepted in the orange Hefty® ReNew® bag as they will contaminate other items. The paper and plastic layers are difficult to separate, and this item is not easily recycled through traditional methods. Paper bags with an inner plastic lining should be placed in the garbage.
