CAUTION: Household Hazardous Waste
DO NOT place this item in a City of Omaha curbside recycling cart or drop-off site container. Some types of older-model thermostats can contain mercury, which is considered household hazardous waste and requires special handling.
Modern, digital thermostats do not contain mercury and are not considered hazardous. A modern, digital thermostat can be placed in the garbage or recycled as e-waste.
Older thermostats (as shown in the photo) and other mercury-containing devices should be taken to the City's special waste facility, UnderTheSink. UnderTheSink accepts unwanted chemicals and special waste from households in Douglas and Sarpy Counties. A list of acceptable items and more information can be found at:
